Paint correction in Auckland — what it actually involves.
What is paint correction?
Paint correction is machine polishing done properly. Using a rotary or dual-action polisher with graded compounds and pads, an extremely thin amount of clear coat is levelled so light reflects evenly again instead of scattering off thousands of tiny scratches. That's what removes the haze and brings back depth. It is not washing, and it is not waxing — a wax or glaze can temporarily mask defects, while correction refines the surface itself so the improvement is still there after the next wash.
Paint correction vs cut and polish
People search for a car cut and polish Auckland and for paint correction and often mean the same outcome. "Cut and polish" usually describes a single-stage job: cut back the defects, polish to gloss, protect. "Paint correction" is the broader term and typically implies a more thorough, multi-stage approach with test panels and paint depth readings for heavily swirled or neglected paint. Which one suits you comes down to the condition of the paint and how far you want to take it — see cut and polish if you're after a single-stage refresh.
Common paint problems we can improve
Swirl marks from brushes and poor washing, fine scratches, hazy or cloudy paint, oxidation and chalky faded panels, water spotting, wash marring and general loss of gloss all respond well to correction. Deeper damage is a different story: scratches you can catch a fingernail in, chips through to primer, dents and failed clear coat can't be polished out and need panel or paint repair instead. We'll assess honestly and tell you what will and won't change.
Our paint correction process
We assess the paint and read its depth, wash and fully decontaminate it, then inspect under proper lighting to identify what's actually there. Compound and pad combinations are tested on a hidden panel before any correction begins, then the machine work is done in stages with depth checked as we go, followed by a refining polish. Last, we recommend protection to keep the result — wax, sealant or a coating.
Paint correction before ceramic coating
A coating seals in whatever is underneath it, so correcting visible imperfections first is what makes a coated car look genuinely spectacular rather than glossy-but-swirled. That's why correction and ceramic coating are so often booked together. That said, not every vehicle needs full multi-stage correction beforehand — near-new or well-maintained paint may only need decontamination and a light polish.
Paint correction across Auckland & Rodney
We're based in Matakana and work throughout Warkworth, Snells Beach, Omaha, the rest of Rodney and the wider Auckland region. Correction work needs good lighting and a sheltered space, so tell us where the vehicle is when you request a paint correction quote and we'll confirm the arrangement, or get in touch with questions first.
